Obon Holiday Should Bring Lots of Japanese Tourists to Hawaii

Japan Airlines in predicting to transport 32,192 passengers to the Hawaiian Islands for the Obon Holiday, which is from August 9 to August 18 this year.  This is an 11.6 percent increase from the number of Japanese visitors who came to Hawaii on Japan Airlines during the Obon Holiday last year.  In fact, due the popularity of Hawaii for this fall holiday, Japan Airlines announced that it would operate eight additional flights to Honolulu as well as create a chartered flight to Kona, Hawaii.

Vice president of brand management for the Hawaii Tourism Authority, David Uchiyama, was especially pleased that Japan Airlines had decided to send a flight to Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Uchiyama commented, "We look forward to the possibility of exploring more service to Kona.  We understand in the initial stages it will be more chartered service to Kona, and then we're hoping we can re-establish scheduled service back to Kona." One of the Hawaii Tourism Authority's major goals for 2013 was to increase travel to the neighbor island of Hawaii.
