The Northern Hawaii Community Hospital, located in Kamuela, Big Island of Hawaii, has announced that it may request a formal affiliation with The Queen's Medical Center on Oahu. The Big Island of Hawaii hospital stated that new requirements from Medicare and insurance companies, as well as the need to improve their information technology system and create more overall financial stability has lead to this request. If Queen's agrees to all of the terms, they would be given the responsibility for appointing the hospital's board. The Northern Hawaii Community Hospital hopes to make a final determination on a partnership by the end of this year.
