Most private schools across the state of Hawaii will be increasing their tuition fees for the 2012-2013 school year in an effort to keep up with rising costs. Punahou will be increasing their tuition by 4 percent to $19,200 per year. Iolani School will increase their tuition by 5.3 percent to $17,800 per year. Mid-Pacific Institute in Manoa will increase their tuition by 3.9 percent to $18,300 per year. Hawaii Prepatory Academy on the Big Island of Hawaii will increase their tuition by 3.8 percent to $21,600 per year. St. Francis will increase by 3.2 percent to $9,700 per year for high school students. Damien Schools will increase tuition by 4.8 percent to $10,875 per year. St. Louis Schools will increase tuition by almost 5 percent to $12,810 per year.
Several of the larger private schools have also noted that they will be increasing the amount of financial aid that their foundations are giving out to those who have financial need. Approximately 20 percent of all school-age children in the state of Hawaii attend a private school. The national average of those attending private schools is currently 11 percent.
