University of Hawaii athletic director Ben Jay has announced a new goal of balancing its budget for the 2014 fiscal year. The department faced an over $3 million budget shortfall in the past fiscal year, and has shown a deficit in 10 of the last 12 years. Jay has stated that the first goal would be to reverse a decline in the box office through aggressive ticket plans in an attempt to win back sports fans. During the past fiscal year, major sports ticket sales were $1.3 million lower than projections. Jay stated, “We’re going to throw everything we can at it. We’re pulling out the stops.” Football season tickets are available to new customers shortly. Wahine volleyball ticket sales are currently underway.
