Microsoft has opened its first store in the state of Hawaii at the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The store will allow customers to interact with Windows 8 PCs, Surface RT and Surface Pro, Windows Phones, Kinect for Xbox 360, and Office as well as other Microsoft products. To celebrate their grand opening, Microsoft brought in hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis as well as alternative dance band Neon Trees for a free concert at Ala Moana. The company also provided the Palama Settlement, the Girl Scouts of Hawaii, the Hawaii Community Foundation, the Goodwill Industries of Hawaii and the YMCA of Honolulu with between $25,000 to $500,000 as part of their way of supporting local charities. In total, $1.2 million was given as part of Microsoft software grants. General Manger of Communications and Strategy for Microsoft, Jonathan Adashek, stated, "When we open a store, we want to have a celebration for that store opening and for the community. We're opening our stores to really become a part of the fabric of the community we're going into." The Ala Moana store will employ 40 people.
