Honolulu Rail Project - Official Considering Changes to Train Configuration

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is considering re-configuring the trains that will be used for the Honolulu Rail Project.  Currently, plans call for a total of 40 two-car trains running the twenty-mile route.  However, officials are now suggesting adjusting the configuration to 20 four-car trains.  While this would increase wait times for passengers from an estimated three minutes per train to more than five minutes per train, it would also save the project several million dollars in operation costs.  The exact savings is still being calculated by the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation.  The same number of train cars (80 total) would be purchased from Ansaldo Honolulu JV.
