The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) has announced that they will be posting on their website over 150,000 pages of records related to their receiving federal approval. The documents include rail-related reports, emails, correspondence and other materials. They can be viewed atwww.honolulutransit.org and according to city officials is both user friendly and offers a search function.
Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer for the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, Dan Grabauskas, stated, “HART is the official source of project information, and providing the public with access to this document in its entirety is important. As the largest public works project in our state’s history, it is imperative that we be transparent, fiscally responsible and responsive. We will continue to share information about the project and increase the amount and type of information made available online.”
It should be noted however, that the documents were compiled and released in connection with a federal lawsuit that challenged the rail project. Originally, city officials stated that the documents should be withheld from the public because the records were confidential or privileged. A federal judge ruled that all documents needed to be available for the public to view.
