Hawaii Tourism – Record 7.8 Million Visitors Predicted in 2012

According to a report released by the state of Hawaii’s Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Hawaii will have a record 7.8 million visitors in 2012.  Visitor spending will also expected to increase to a $13.9 billion, which will be another record.  This increase in tourists will help Hawaii see a 2.2 percent gross domestic product growth this year.  In 2010 and 2011, Hawaii saw a gross domestic product growth of only 1.2 percent per year.  DBEDT director, Richard Lim, stated, “We remain optimistic and confident that our economy is moving toward a more normal growth curve.”
