National Parks Provide $252 Million and 3,420 Jobs for State of Hawaii

According to a report released by the National Park Service, the seven national parks that are located in the Hawaiian Islands provides approximately $252 million of revenue for the state and creates a total of 3,420 jobs.  Included in this study are Haleakala National Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Kalaupapa National Historical Park, Kaloko-Ho­nokohau National Historical Park, Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site, and World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument.  The report noted that the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument is Hawaii’s most popular national park attraction and approximately 1.37 million people visited the monument in 2010.  These visitors spent about $53.6 million in the community.  Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was the second highest visitor destination amongst the national parks and 1.3 million people visited them in 2010, spending $88.3 million.
