Mayor Peter Carlisle presented a new fiscal budget proposal for the City and County of Honolulu to the tune of $1.953 billion. This is actually only an increase of $28 million as compared to the year before, and the budget proposal does not call for any real property tax rate increases or user fees increases. The City Council will now review the proposal and vote on if they will accept it. Ann Kobayashi, Council Budget Chairwoman, stated, “I’m glad that he didn’t raise property taxes or any more fees. And I don’t know how everything else will be funded, but it sounds like a lean budget. We’re going to go through it line by line to see if there are any more areas where we have savings.”
