Hawaiian Airlines Welcome First Flight from New York City

Hawaiian Airlines welcomed its first flight from New York City to the Hawaiian island yesterday as part of its new daily nonstop service to J.F.K International Airport.  Hoyt Zia, the Senior Vice President for Hawaiian Airlines, stated, “It’s our first gateway city on the East Coast.  Everywhere else we fly to this point has been to Asia or the western U.S. So this is a huge step for us.”
According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority, this new route to the East Coast would provide hawaii with an additional $156 million a year in visitor spending and approximately $17 million in additional tax revenue to the state.  Hawaii Tourism Authority’s CEO, Mike McCartney, stated, “This New York flight services our second-largest market, the U.S. East.  We needed to have a pickup of air seats from that region, and direct access from the East Coast to Hawaii and the Hawaiian Islands will be very positive for us.  We hope Hawaiian is able to continue to grow and expand.  It’s something that benefits all of us in Hawaii, and we should be very proud that a Hawaiibased company is able to provide this kind of opportunity for not only themselves as a company, but the entire state.”
