Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Release Job Forecast for 2014

The state of Hawaii's Department of Labor and Industrial Relations issued their economic forecast for 2014 and predicts a significant increase of jobs in the construction, retail and tourism industries.  According to the report, "The building industry will spark the most rapid growth approaching 13 percent.  Construction should make a convincing comeback from the recession it has struggled to emerge from the last several years."  The report added that this would translate into approximately 3,750 more jobs in the construction industry alone. Retailers should add another 2,900 while an additional 4,610 jobs will be added to the tourism industry.

However, the report does take into account that there may be fewer government related jobs in Hawaii.  The report noted, "Although both state and local governments will manage modest increases as tax revenues regain strength, the federal government is forced to shed jobs due to sequestration."
