Hawaii to Still Hold Critical Role for Military

Leon Panetta, the Defense Secretary for the United States Military, assured both civilians and military members that Hawaii will continue to play a critical role for the military.  The entire armed services is facing approximately $487 billion worth of budget cuts over the next 10 years, but Panetta stated that Hawaii will see the effects less then some areas as the United States will focus their resources on Asia and the Middle East.  Panetta noted, “More than ever, Hawaii remains that key center for operations throughout the Asia-Pacific region.  I really want you to know how important we think Hawaii is to the defense of the United States and, more importantly, for advancing peace and prosperity and security throughout the Asia-Pacific region.”
