According to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, a total of 219 bankruptcy cases were filed in May 2012, which was a decrease of 34 percent from the 334 cases that were filed in the same month a year prior. Honolulu County had 135 cases, or a 32.5 percent decrease. Maui County had 41 cases, a 45.3 percent decrease. Hawaii County (Big Island) had 31 cases, a 26.2 percent decrease. And Kauai County had 12 cases, a 29.4 percent decrease.
