Waikiki Beach Sand Replenishment Project Update

According to state of Hawaii and visitor industry officials, the sand replenishment project of Waikiki Beach is going smoothly, but it was decided that entire sections of the beach will be closed in the morning to speed up the process.  A total of three trucks and a bulldozer are being utilized to move the sand around, and work will be taking place from 7 a.m. to noon every day of the week from March 14 through April 14.  The public will have unrestricted access to the beach in the afternoons and evenings.  Director of the state Department of Land and natural Resources, William Aila, stated that the project will cost a total of $2.2 million to complete.
