According to the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, the island of Oahu can expect to see a lot of progress this year in regards to the building of the Honolulu Rail Project. Having spent the last couple of years dealing with various litigation issues and forced to stop construction due to the requirement of completing an archaeological survey, rail is back on track. In 2014, nearly two hundred concrete columns will be placed to support he elevated system and by this summer the first guide way systems will be installed on top of these columns. HARP warns that there be some traffic delays from lane and road closures. If they are able to proceed as planned, approximately half of the rail system will open in 2017. The full rail system should be operational in 2019.
